(Napoli, Italia)
Italians make it look easy. Their expressive words roll right off their tongue. Even saying “basta” has energy that’s charged and exciting, as it should, considering it’s used a lot in crowded areas to ward off unwanted attention. “Ahem” doesn’t cut it.
That same charged and exciting energy is used in love and war. Verona had the Capulets and Montegues from the story of Romeo and Juliet. Napoli has Spaccanapoli, a street which divides the old city in two and literally means "Naples splitter." Perhaps a way to divide the ancient Greeks from the Romans since the city began as Neapolis, a Greek city and later Napoli, a Roman city.....who knows? I love it either way!
Italians let beauty roll out their mouths in the form of words, fight and divide a city with a street called Spaccanapoli......
And take you to a church where you enjoy beautiful art and then...
They kill you...Not really, but you ache when you have to leave all their warmth, laughter and beauty behind you.
